Gypsys Eye Blind Dog Rescue

Who We Are

Gypsy's Eye is a rescue for blind dogs. Our goal is to accept blind dogs from shelters who would otherwise be euthanized, just for being blind. Of course we occasionally end up with a few dogs who are not blind, and a few cats, too!

All animals in our program are housed in loving foster homes. The blind ones get special training on how to follow voices and commands to go up and down stairs, watch out for dangerous objects, etc. Sometimes we get blind AND deaf dogs, they are a special challenge when it comes to training. But they still have plenty of love to give!

Blind Dogs on TV

Our founder, Michelle Wunsch, and our little blue heeler mix Beignet, were guests on WBRZ's 2une in program. Both Michelle and Beignet were very scared; neither one had been on TV before! But they both did great, didn't they? Click the link below to watch the video!

Murray

Meet Murray! Murray is our _MOST URGENT_ dog.
MURRAY IS NOT BLIND, SHE JUST NEEDS A HOME!

Murray is a 7 year old chow/lab mix. She has had some bad bad luck.

Her former owner chained her up to an apartment complex near LSU because he moved into an apartment that didn't allow dogs. At first, he fed her every day and took her for occasional walks. Eventually he was coming by less and less, and after 6 months he had stopped coming. One of the people who lived in the place where Murray was chained was feeding her. All she had was a plastic doghouse and a 10-foot chain. She spent almost a year living on that chain.

When we heard what was happening to Murray, we couldn't let her stay there any more. A foster home was found for Murray even though our rescue is full. Now Murray is about to be in the same predicament. The foster parents have also decided to move to a house that does not allow pets, and they want to find homes for Murray and their own two dogs. So Murray is out of luck again.

While Murray was chained, she was never given heartworm medicine. So now, on top of being homeless, Murray also has to go through heartworm treatment. She was approved for heartworm treatment through the Katrina Lifeline Program and she starts June 16th. She is otherwise healthy, she is spayed and has all of her shots.

Despite her ordeal, Murray is the sweetest thing. She is always happy and ready to play. She's very clever and full of energy. She needs a place to go immediately, a foster home, an adopter, or a rescue willing to take her in. If you can help Murray start her new life, please email us at GEBDR@yahoo.com.

What a lucky boy!

Big Lou wants to thank you! We had a big party for big lou and the blind dogs and we raised $700. That's enough to pay for his heartworm treatment and a little extra monies for the rest of our dogs. Lou is positive for heartworms. Of course we are always in need of donations, so if you can help, please email us at GEBDR@yahoo.com or click on the donation button above.
